The first-generation Volvo XC40 (Type XZ) received a facelift in early 2022. This aesthetic refresh (new bumpers, refined 'Thor's Hammer' headlights with Pixel LED technology) is accompanied by a major technological revolution: the generalization of the Android Automotive infotainment system across the entire range. Although this sheet covers all powertrains, the focus is on the 100% electric version (Recharge, renamed EX40 in 2024). This version underwent a spectacular technical evolution in 2023: the abandonment of front-wheel drive (FWD) in favor of rear-wheel drive (RWD) for single-motor versions, with the introduction of new electric motors developed in-house by Volvo and larger capacity batteries (up to 82 kWh). This change radically improved efficiency and driving pleasure. The XC40
The restyled Volvo XC40 (2022-2025), particularly in its electric variant (Recharge / EX40), is a highly recommendable premium SUV. The ideal choice is undoubtedly a Single Motor Extended Range (RWD, 82 kWh) version produced from mid-2023. This technical update has transformed the vehicle, erasing the traction flaws of the old FWD version while drastically increasing real-world range. Early issues related to the Android Automotive system (TCAM module) have been largely eradicated by OTA updates. Mild-hybrid versions (B3/B4) remain excellent alternatives for high-mileage drivers, although the model's future is clearly all-electric.
