The first-generation Volvo XC40 received a mid-cycle refresh (facelift) in late 2022 (model year 2023). This aesthetic update (new bumpers, refined 'Thor's Hammer' headlights) is accompanied by a major technological overhaul: the adoption of the Google Android Automotive (AAOS) infotainment system across the entire range. Mechanically, diesel has definitively disappeared, making way for a fully electrified lineup: 48V mild-hybrid (B3, B4), plug-in hybrid (Recharge T4, T5), and 100% electric (Recharge, renamed EX40 in 2024). The electric version also underwent a major technical evolution in 2023, switching from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive for single-motor versions, thereby improving efficiency and range. The refreshed Volvo XC40 (2022-2025) is an extremely appealing, safe, and comfortable compact SUV. Mechanically, it is very robust, whether in mild-hybrid or electric form. However, this refreshed generation suffered from its transition to the Google software architecture (Android Automotive). TCAM module issues (loss of network/GPS) plagued many owners of 2022 and 2023 model years. Fortunately, OTA updates have stabilized the system over time. Verdict: An excellent purchase, prioritizing electric versions (especially post-2023 RWD models, which are very efficient). It is imperative to ensure that the infotainment system is up to date and that the TCAM module has been replaced or made reliable under warranty if buying used.
