Volvo S80 I (P2) (1998 – 2006)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The first-generation Volvo S80 (P2) marked a major turning point for the Swedish manufacturer. Replacing the S90 (900 series), it abandoned rear-wheel drive and cubic design to adopt the new P2 platform (front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive) and softened lines designed by Peter Horbury. 🎯 Verdict

The Volvo S80 I is a formidable road car that offers an unbeatable price/performance/comfort ratio on the used car market. If you are looking for a diesel, the D5 (163 hp) is a masterpiece of reliability, capable of exceeding 500,000 km with rigorous maintenance. The original Audi 2.5 TDI is also indestructible but less refined. Buying advice: Prioritize a facelifted model (post-2003) with a D5 (163 hp) or 2.4/2.5T gasoline engine. Absolutely avoid T6 versions due to their disastrous GM automatic gearbox, and be very vigilant about the service history of Aisin automatic gearboxes (demand invoices for gearbox fluid changes). A well-maintained model is a highly recommended purchase.
