Volvo S60 I (P2) (2000 – 2010)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The first-generation Volvo S60 (P2) is a premium family sedan that marked a stylistic turning point for the Swedish brand, abandoning cubic lines for a design known as 'shouldered' (V-profile). Based on the robust P2 platform (shared with the V70, S80, and XC90), it established itself as a serious alternative to German benchmarks (BMW 3 Series E46, Audi A4 B6, Mercedes C-Class W203). 🎯 Verdict

The Volvo S60 I is a fantastic road car, provided you choose wisely. Absolutely prioritize facelifted models (from late 2004 / MY2005 onwards) which corrected serious electronic issues (throttle body, instrument cluster) and improved the automatic gearbox. The holy grail of reliability is the D5 163 hp (Euro 3) engine with a manual gearbox, capable of exceeding 500,000 km without a hitch. For petrol, a 2.4i 170 hp or a 2.5T post-2005 will offer royal driving pleasure. Avoid models before 2003 with an automatic gearbox if the service history for fluid changes is non-existent, as well as 'R' versions if you don't have a solid maintenance budget.
