Volvo C40 Recharge I (2021 – 2023)

Reliability score : 8.3/10

The Volvo C40 Recharge (Generation I) marks a historic turning point for the Swedish brand: it is the first Volvo model designed exclusively to be 100% electric. A direct derivative of the XC40 compact SUV, from which it inherits the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) modular platform, the C40 distinguishes itself with a sloping roofline in the style of an "SUV Coupe", slightly improving aerodynamics at the expense of rear headroom and visibility. It also stands out with the native integration of the Android Automotive infotainment system (Google built-in) and the complete absence of leather in the cabin. 🎯 Verdict

The Volvo C40 Recharge is an electric SUV Coupe with a strong design, offering premium features and top-flight safety. Mechanically (electric motors, battery), reliability is excellent. However, the 2021 and 2022 models suffered from numerous software bugs linked to the launch of Android Automotive and the fragility of the connectivity module (TCAM). If you are buying a used model, demand a clear history of software interventions and verify that the TCAM module has been made reliable. The 'Single Motor' versions are more than sufficient for 95% of uses. If your budget allows, favor the late 2023 models (switch to RWD), which correct the early flaws and offer much better range.
