Volkswagen T-Roc I facelift (A1) (2021 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.6/10

The first-generation Volkswagen T-Roc received a mid-life facelift (Phase 2 / A1) at the end of 2021, with deliveries starting in 2022. This facelift corrects the main flaw of Phase 1: perceived quality. The dashboard finally adopts foamed plastics, the infotainment system upgrades to MIB3 (floating screen), and the lighting signature integrates optional Matrix LED technology. Positioned between the T-Cross and the Tiguan, it remains one of the best-selling compact SUVs in Europe. With the diesel engine (2.0 TDI), it specifically targets high-mileage drivers, offering remarkable fuel efficiency thanks to the evolution of its EA288 block (now 'evo' with Twin Dosing technology). Overall rating for the restyled generation: Very solid, with undeniable technical maturity.

🎯 Verdict

The restyled Volkswagen T-Roc (2021+) is a vehicle that has reached full maturity. By correcting the low-end plastics of the first phase, it finally justifies its pricing. The 2.0 TDI engine (115 or 150 hp) is a masterpiece of fuel efficiency for high-mileage drivers, offering unbeatable range and highway running costs. However, this diesel engine should be absolutely avoided if your use is predominantly urban, at the risk of exorbitant costs (DPF, EGR, AdBlue). For mixed use, the 1.5 TSI 150 remains the most rational choice. It is a highly recommendable purchase, provided you choose the engine carefully according to your annual mileage.
