Toyota Yaris IV (XP210) (2020 – 2025)

Reliability score : 9.3/10

Toyota Yaris IV (XP210) Launched in 2020, the fourth generation of the Toyota Yaris (XP210) marks a complete break with its predecessors. Based on the new modular TNGA-B platform, it gains in rigidity, dynamism, and features a much more assertive design. While the European market overwhelmingly favors the hybrid (HSD) version, the Yaris IV also offers excellent 100% gasoline (naturally aspirated) engines that stand out for their mechanical simplicity and unparalleled reliability. A facelift occurred in early 2024, bringing a technological update (new multimedia system, digital gauges) and the introduction of a more powerful hybrid engine (130h), while retaining traditional gasoline engines in some markets. The sporty GR Yaris version, a true technological showcase, completes the range. Exp

🎯 Verdict

Expert's Verdict The Toyota Yaris IV is a master-buy in the city car category. While the hybrid version captures all the attention, the 100% gasoline engines (1.0 VVT-i and 1.5 VVT-i) are true gems of reliability. Devoid of a turbo (on 1.0) or equipped with a very well-developed bi-mode injection (on 1.5), they escape the chronic flaws of their European competitors (like Stellantis' PureTech). Opt for the 1.0 VVT-i if you only drive in the city and are looking for the lowest possible maintenance cost. The 1.5 VVT-i with 120 hp is the versatile choice: it offers astonishing performance for negligible consumption, without the complexity of the hybrid system. The only real flaw of this car remains its cramped rear space. With the Toyota Relax warranty up to 10 years, it's a purchase without the slightest risk.
