Toyota Yaris III (XP130) (2011 – 2020)

Reliability score : 8.8/10

The Toyota Yaris III (XP130 generation) is a versatile B-segment city car. Produced in Valenciennes for the European market (« Origine France Garantie » label), it marked a turning point by democratizing hybrid technology (HSD) in this segment. The model had an exceptionally long career thanks to two major facelifts: Phase 2 in 2014 (adoption of the « X » grille, improved interior plastics and soundproofing) and Phase 3 in 2017 (new front end, horizontal taillights, replacement of the 1.33 engine with a new 1.5). Renowned for its outstanding reliability, particularly in petrol and hybrid versions, it only suffers from imperfect soundproofing and an outdated infotainment system. It is one of the safest used car purchases on the market.

🎯 Verdict

The Toyota Yaris III is an absolute sensible choice in the used car market. If you are looking for a petrol city car, opt for the 1.5 VVT-iE 111 hp (post-2017) which offers the best performance/reliability compromise, or the small 1.0 VVT-i if you never leave the city. The 1.33 VVT-i should be avoided on 2011-2013 model years due to its oil consumption. Although this report focuses on petrol, it's impossible not to recommend the Hybrid (HSD) version, which remains the undisputed queen of the range for its indestructible reliability and fuel efficiency. Avoid the diesel (D-4D), unsuitable for the car's urban purpose.
