Toyota Tacoma II (N200) (2005 – 2015)

Reliability score : 9.2/10

The second-generation Toyota Tacoma (N200) is a true legend in the midsize pickup segment (Midsize Trucks), primarily designed for the North American market. Renowned for its nearly indestructible robustness, it dominated its segment for a decade. Offered in three cab configurations (Regular, Access, Double Cab) and with highly sought-after off-road-oriented trims (TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport, Baja), it received minor facelifts in 2009 and 2012. According to J.D. Power and ADAC, it is one of the most reliable vehicles on the market, easily capable of exceeding 300,000 km with basic maintenance. Its only real historical enemy is chassis corrosion, a problem addressed by Toyota through massive replacement campaigns.

🎯 Verdict

The Toyota Tacoma N200 is a monument of reliability. Data from ADAC, TÜV, and J.D. Power are unanimous: it is one of the most durable vehicles ever built, capable of reaching astronomical mileages with minimal hassle. The 4.0L V6 engine (1GR-FE) coupled with the Aisin gearbox is a solid gold combination. However, this reputation comes at a price: its used market value is extremely high. The only absolute black mark is chassis corrosion. If you find an example with a sound chassis (or one that has been replaced by Toyota) and whose basic maintenance has been followed, it is a blind buy, despite its gargantuan fuel consumption.
