Toyota Supra GR Supra (A90) (2019 – 2025)

Reliability score : 9.1/10

The Toyota GR Supra (A90 generation, internal code J29) marks the highly anticipated return of Toyota's iconic sports coupe after more than 15 years of absence. Developed in close partnership with BMW (it shares its platform, powertrains, and interior with the BMW Z4 G29), it is assembled by Magna Steyr in Austria. Although criticized by purists at its launch for its 'Germanic DNA', the GR Supra quickly established itself as an excellent sports car. It benefits from excellent modular BMW engines (B48 4-cylinder and B58 6-cylinder), renowned for their high reliability and tuning potential. In 2022, Toyota addressed one of the main criticisms by introducing a 6-speed manual gearbox on the 3.0L version, accompanied by a revision of the suspension and steering.

🎯 Verdict

The Toyota GR Supra A90 is an undeniable success dynamically and mechanically. The partnership with BMW, though controversial, allowed the Supra to be equipped with one of the best 6-cylinder engines in the world (the B58), offering remarkable reliability, far superior to older generations of European turbo engines. It is a highly recommended purchase, whether in 2.0L for dynamic daily use, or in 3.0L for purists and track enthusiasts. The manual gearbox version (post-2022) is the absolute grail for future collector value. However, pay attention to the service history, especially on heavily modified models.
