Reliability score : 8.8/10

Toyota Hilux VIII Facelift (AN120) Initially launched in 2015, the eighth generation of the Toyota Hilux received a major facelift in 2020. This facelift brought significant improvements: a redesigned front end, a modernized infotainment system (compatible with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto), a recalibrated suspension for better unladen comfort, and above all, an update to its engines. Although the European market is almost exclusively dominated by diesel engines (2.4 and 2.8 D-4D), this sheet focuses on the petrol engines, which are extremely popular in international markets (Middle East, Australia, South America, Asia) for their legendary reliability and indestructibility. The Hilux remains the absolute benchmark for utility pickups, offering unfailing robustness thanks to its ladder frame

🎯 Verdict

The Toyota Hilux VIII (facelifted in 2020) fully deserves its reputation as an indestructible vehicle. If you have the opportunity to acquire a petrol version (2.7L 2TR-FE or 4.0L 1GR-FE) via importation or on an international market, you are buying absolute peace of mind. These engines, devoid of DPF, AdBlue, and complex turbos, are designed to exceed 500,000 km with basic maintenance. The only real compromise will be the fuel budget. For the diesel versions (the most common in Europe), the 2020 facelift corrected the early flaws of the 2.8L, making it an excellent choice provided it is driven enough to avoid clogging.
