Tesla Model S II (Plaid) (2021 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The second-generation Tesla Model S (often called 'Refresh', 'Palladium', or 'Plaid') marks a major redesign of the brand's historic electric sedan. While externally subtle (wider bumpers, chrome delete), the evolution is radical inside: a new tilting horizontal screen, a rear screen for passengers, and the controversial introduction of the 'Yoke' steering wheel (the round steering wheel would later become available again). Technically, it introduces a new battery architecture (still using 18650 cells but redesigned), a powerful infotainment system (AMD Ryzen), and carbon-sleeved rotor motors for the Plaid version. It redefines performance standards while maintaining benchmark energy efficiency. Overall note: An impressive technological showcase, although the build quality remains below Eu

🎯 Verdict

The Tesla Model S 'Refresh' (2021+) is a technological tour de force. The Plaid version offers true hypercar performance for the price of a premium sedan, while the Dual Motor version remains the most balanced and rational choice thanks to its gargantuan range. However, mechanical reliability is marred by running gear (driveshafts, tires, brakes) that suffer enormously under the vehicle's weight and excessive power. On the used car market, depreciation is massive. It is imperative to inspect tire wear, the condition of the driveshafts, and to prioritize a model with the replaced or round steering wheel. An exciting purchase, but one that requires vigilance.
