Suzuki Vitara IV (LY) (2015 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.6/10

The fourth-generation Suzuki Vitara (codename LY) marks a radical turning point for the model: it abandons its ladder frame chassis of a pure off-roader to adopt a unibody platform of an urban SUV (B-SUV segment). Lighter, more agile, and more economical, it nevertheless retains true off-road capabilities thanks to its excellent optional AllGrip all-wheel drive system. Launched in 2015 with 1.6 naturally aspirated (petrol) and 1.6 DDiS (Fiat-sourced diesel) engines, it underwent a first facelift in 2018 (dropping the diesel in favor of 1.0 and 1.4 Boosterjet turbo petrol engines), then a 48V mild hybridisation in 2020, and finally the introduction of a 'Strong Hybrid' (1.5 Dualjet) powertrain in 2022. A final aesthetic and technological facelift occurred in 2024. Although the target demand

🎯 Verdict

The Suzuki Vitara IV is one of the most reliable urban SUVs on the market. If you are specifically targeting the 1.6 DDiS, it is an excellent choice for high-mileage drivers or those living in mountainous areas (coupled with AllGrip). The Fiat-sourced block is durable, provided its operating environment is respected: it dislikes city driving which clogs its DPF and EGR valve. For mixed or urban use, absolutely prioritize the petrol versions (1.6 VVT or 1.4 Boosterjet), whose reliability is almost irreproachable.
