The fourth-generation Suzuki Vitara (codename LY) marks a radical turning point for the model: it abandons its ladder frame chassis of a pure off-roader to adopt a unibody platform of an urban SUV (B-SUV segment). The Fiat-sourced block is durable, provided its operating environment is respected: it dislikes city driving which clogs its DPF and EGR valve. For mixed or urban use, absolutely prioritize the petrol versions (1.6 VVT or 1.4 Boosterjet), whose reliability is almost irreproachable.
