Suzuki SX4 S-Cross I (JY) (2013 – 2016)

Reliability score : 8.8/10

The first-generation Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (code JY), in its phase 1 (before the late 2016 facelift), marks a break from its predecessor. It abandons the small urban crossover format to become a true C-segment compact SUV, rivaling the Nissan Qashqai. Pragmatically designed, it shines with its roominess, its large trunk (430 liters), and its excellent AllGrip AWD system (optional). While it falls short with an austere interior presentation and hard plastics, it makes up for it with top-tier mechanical reliability, particularly on its naturally aspirated gasoline engines. It is a rational choice par excellence. Overall design rating: 8/10

🎯 Verdict

The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross (2013-2016) is the archetype of a smart purchase. If you are looking for a status symbol or a luxurious vehicle, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for a spacious family transport tool, capable of driving in the snow (AllGrip version) and that will practically never break down, it is an excellent choice. The 1.6 VVT gasoline engine is absolutely the one to favor: it is one of the most reliable engines of its generation. The 1.6 DDiS diesel should only be considered if you drive more than 20,000 km per year, mostly on highways, to avoid FAP and EGR issues.
