Suzuki Ignis II (MF) (2016 – 2025)

Reliability score : 9.1/10

The Suzuki Ignis generation MF (often referred to as 2nd or 3rd generation depending on the market) is an urban mini-crossover in the A-segment. Based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform, it stands out for its featherlight weight (often under a ton), its neo-retro design inspired by older models of the brand (notably the Suzuki Whizzkid), and its rare availability in this category with genuine all-wheel drive (AllGrip). In 2020, the model received a facelift, featuring an updated grille, bumpers, and most importantly, an update to its powertrains to meet Euro 6d-Full standards, with reinforced mild-hybridization (SHVS) (battery increased from 3 Ah to 10 Ah). It is a pragmatic, extremely reliable, and economical vehicle to use, but it foregoes luxury and sound insulation.

🎯 Verdict

The Suzuki Ignis II is a true urban 'Swiss Army knife'. It is one of the most reliable vehicles of its generation, powered by simple and proven naturally aspirated petrol engines. Its running costs are unbeatable. The AllGrip version is a fantastic choice for mountainous or rural areas. Buying advice: Absolutely prioritize the manual gearbox (5-speed manual) or the CVT (on recent or imported models). The AGS automated manual gearbox should be avoided due to its poor driving comfort and imperfect reliability in intensive urban use. The facelifted model (post-2020) with the 83 hp K12D engine offers the best compromise thanks to its improved hybrid system.
