Subaru WRX V (VB) (2022 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The fifth-generation Subaru WRX (code name VB) marks a major turning point for the model. Now resting on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP), it gains considerably in torsional rigidity and refinement. Under the hood, it abandons the 2.0L (FA20) of the previous generation in favor of the 2.4L turbo block (FA24F), offering a much fuller torque curve at low revs. Notable fact: Subaru officially canceled the development of an STI version for this generation, making this WRX the sole sporty representative of the lineup. It is offered with an excellent 6-speed manual gearbox or a reworked CVT automatic transmission, dubbed 'Subaru Performance Transmission' (SPT). Although its design with its raw plastic wheel arches has been divisive, it remains an undisputed benchmark for its all-wheel drive trac

🎯 Verdict

The VB-generation Subaru WRX is a mature and technically accomplished evolution of the famous rally sedan. The transition to the 2.4L engine (FA24F) and the SGP platform has corrected many flaws of the previous generation (low-end lag, improvable rigidity). In terms of reliability, the engine block proves to be very robust if, and only if, maintenance is scrupulous (frequent oil changes, respecting warm-up times). Buying advice: Absolutely favor the manual gearbox (6-speed manual) versions. They are not only more reliable in the long term, but they perfectly match the car's DNA. The CVT automatic transmission (SPT), although improved, suffers from reports of jerks and restricts the vehicle's sporty potential. It is a highly recommended passion purchase for all-weather driving enthusiasts, provided you accept a substantial fuel budget.
