Subaru Crosstrek II (GT) (2018 – 2023)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

The second-generation Subaru Crosstrek (GT code), sold under the name Subaru XV in Europe until 2023, is a compact SUV based on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP). This architecture has significantly improved structural rigidity, comfort, and safety compared to the previous generation. A true automotive Swiss Army knife, it stands out from the competition with its standard Symmetrical AWD and generous ground clearance of 22 cm (8.7 inches), giving it real off-road capabilities. Very popular in North America (especially in California and the Pacific Northwest), it enjoys excellent resale value. A facelift in 2021 brought slight aesthetic tweaks and, above all, the highly anticipated introduction of the 2.5L engine to the North American market to compensate for the 2.0L's lack of power.

🎯 Verdict

The second-generation Subaru Crosstrek (XV in Europe) is an excellent choice for drivers seeking true all-season versatility. Unlike many urban SUVs, its AWD system is permanent and formidably effective on snow or mud. Mechanical reliability is solid, with Subaru having corrected the oil consumption issues of the previous generation. Although the 2018-2019 models underwent several recalls (notably electronics and PCV valve), once these fixes are applied, the vehicle is extremely robust. The 2.5L engine (North America) is the powertrain of choice, erasing the shortcomings of the 2.0L. In Europe, the 2.0 e-Boxer is the ideal compromise. Buy with your eyes closed if the maintenance (and recall) history is crystal clear.
