Skoda Superb III (3V) (2015 – 2023)

Reliability score : 8.4/10

The third-generation Skoda Superb (Type 3V), launched in 2015, is based on the Volkswagen Group's modular MQB platform. As the Czech brand's flagship, it has established itself as the absolute benchmark in its segment for spaciousness (especially in the rear seats) and boot volume. A facelift occurred in mid-2019, bringing aesthetic updates, the introduction of Matrix LED headlights, an infotainment system update (MIB3), and, most notably, the arrival of the iV plug-in hybrid version. Although the European market has historically favored diesel in this segment, the Superb III benefited from an excellent range of petrol (TSI) engines from the EA211 and EA888 Gen 3 families, which proved to be particularly reliable and powerful, erasing the severe oil consumption issues of the previous gener

🎯 Verdict

The Skoda Superb III is one of the smartest road cars on the market. In petrol, it particularly shines. The 1.4 TSI 150 or 1.5 TSI 150 are more than sufficient for daily use and offer surprising fuel efficiency. However, the prize for driving pleasure and reliability goes to the 2.0 TSI (190 or 280 hp), paired with the robust wet-clutch DSG gearboxes. To avoid: The 1.8 TSI, not for the engine itself, but because it is detuned and associated with the fragile dry-clutch DSG7 (DQ200) gearbox, which poorly handles the car's weight in urban use. Diesel versions remain relevant for very high mileage drivers, provided potential AdBlue issues are budgeted for. For a used car, prioritize a post-2019 (facelift) 2.0 TSI or 1.5 TSI model with a clear service history.
