Skoda Octavia IV (2020 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia (code name NX) is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB Evo platform, shared with the Golf 8 and Seat Leon 4. Launched in 2020, it marks a spectacular move upmarket with a highly digitalized interior, class-leading passenger space, and a benchmark trunk volume (up to 640L in Combi). While the mechanical fundamentals are excellent, the beginning of its career was heavily marred by major software bugs (infotainment, driver assistance systems). The 2024 facelift corrected these early issues, introduced new, more responsive screens, and rationalized the engine range (discontinuation of the 1.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI 200).

🎯 Verdict

The Skoda Octavia IV is intrinsically one of the best compact family cars on the market, offering performance worthy of the segment above. Regarding gasoline engines, the 1.5 TSI (with or without e-TEC mild-hybridization) is the absolute best buy: powerful, extremely fuel-efficient, and very reliable. The 2.0 TSI will delight hurried family fathers (RS), while the PHEV (iV) should be reserved for fiscal or very specific use due to its complexity. However, be aware: mechanical reliability is excellent, but the electronic reliability of 2020 to mid-2022 model years was catastrophic. Prioritize a model produced after late 2022, or ensure the vehicle has received all software updates and the capacitive steering wheel replacement under warranty.
