The Skoda Octavia IV is arguably the most practical and well-rounded family car in its segment, but its launch was severely marred by the VW Group's rushed MQB Evo software architecture. Mechanically, the car is excellent. The 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines are highly refined, durable, and incredibly fuel-efficient. However, buying an early model (2020-2021) requires extreme caution regarding the electronics. If you are looking at a used model, insist on proof that the steering wheel has been replaced (to fix Travel Assist bugs) and that the MIB3 infotainment has the latest software. Models produced from late 2022 onwards, and especially the 2024 facelift, are highly recommended. Avoid the PHEV (iV) unless you have a strict tax incentive, as it is the least reliable powertrain.
