Skoda Kodiaq I (NS7) (2016–2021) (2016 – 2021)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

The first-generation Skoda Kodiaq (NS7), in its phase 1 (before the 2021 facelift), marks the successful entry of the Czech manufacturer into the large family SUV segment. Based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB-A2 modular platform (shared with the VW Tiguan Allspace and the Seat Tarraco), it stands out for its exceptional roominess, the ability to accommodate up to 7 passengers, and its practical 'Simply Clever' features. Positioned as a rational and voluminous alternative to premium SUVs, it has met with immense commercial success. Although this sheet covers all engines, a particular focus is given to the diesel (TDI) blocks, which represent the majority of sales in Europe for this type of heavy vehicle designed for long journeys.

🎯 Verdict

The first-generation Skoda Kodiaq is a rational choice par excellence. With the 2.0 TDI (150 or 190 hp) engine, it offers a very good level of reliability, provided that maintenance is scrupulously respected (especially DSG gearbox and 4x4 transmission oil changes). The EA288 block is mature, although the water pump remains its Achilles heel. It is an ideal vehicle for large families and high mileage drivers. Avoid examples that have been driven exclusively in the city on diesel (risk of FAP/EGR clogging) and favor a model with a 100% transparent maintenance history.
