Diesel Focus: If you are a high-mileage driver, the 2.0 TDI (150 or 184 hp) is the engine to prioritize. It is robust, torquey, and paired with reliable wet-clutch DSG gearboxes. You will simply need to monitor the water pump and flush the coolant (G13) to avoid heating issues. The 1.6 TDI is economical but suffers from the fragility of its DSG7 (DQ200) gearbox and quickly clogs if not driven on the highway. For petrol, the EA211 generation TSI engines (1.2 and 1.4 TSI) have erased past flaws and prove to be extremely reliable and economical. Opt for a facelifted model (post-2017) for a more responsive multimedia system and a slightly improved finish.
