Saab 9-5 II (YS3G) (2010 – 2012)

Reliability score : 6.2/10

The second-generation Saab 9-5 (YS3G) is the Swedish manufacturer's swan song. Based on the GM Epsilon II platform (shared with the Opel Insignia A), it stands out with a spectacular aeronautical design, a driver-oriented cabin, and high-flying comfort. Unfortunately, Saab's bankruptcy in 2011 abruptly halted its career, with only just over 11,200 units produced. Today, it is a collector's vehicle (youngtimer). While the GM mechanical underpinnings make it easy to find engine parts, Saab-specific bodywork elements and electronics have become extremely rare and expensive. Overall note: A passionate choice, reserved for the knowledgeable.

⚠️ Weaknesses

🎯 Verdict

The Saab 9-5 II is a fascinating car, but its purchase must be carefully considered. According to ADAC data (4.8 breakdowns/1000 veh/year) and TÜV (21% defects), overall reliability is below average, hampered by electronic issues and mechanical flaws of GM origin. Regarding diesels (TiD/TTiD): they offer good driving pleasure but suffer from the fatal oil pump seal problem and intake manifold fouling. Only buy a diesel if this seal has been recently replaced. For a collector's purchase, favor the 2.0T petrol, which is more reliable and more in line with the brand's spirit. Make sure you have a Saab specialist (or experienced Opel mechanic) nearby and solid comprehensive insurance in case of an accident (body parts are impossible to find).
