Renault Twingo III (AH8) (2014 – 2024)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The Renault Twingo III (AH8 generation) marks a radical break in the model's history. Developed in partnership with Daimler (sharing its platform with the Smart Fortwo III and Forfour II), it adopts a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive architecture, offered exclusively as a 5-door. This technical choice gives it an exceptional turning radius (4.30 m), ideal for urban use. A facelift (Phase 2) occurred in 2019, bringing a C-shaped light signature, a redesign of the multimedia system (Easy Link), and an update of the engines to meet Euro 6d-Temp standards. In 2020, the range was expanded with a 100% electric version (Z.E., then E-Tech). Although its rear design limits trunk volume and makes it prone to heating, the Twingo III remains a formidable city car. Its overall reliability is satisfactory,

🎯 Verdict

The Renault Twingo III is a pure city car. Its atypical architecture makes it the undisputed queen of city centers thanks to its unparalleled maneuverability. For a used car, the verdict is favorable, provided you choose the right engine for your use. For 100% urban use, the 1.0 SCe (ideally the 75 hp Phase 2) is the most rational and reliable choice. If you regularly drive outside urban areas, the 0.9 TCe 90/95 is essential, but requires a clear maintenance history (monitoring of the chain and cooling system). The E-Tech electric version is an excellent deal for recent used cars for commuting. Be aware, however, of maintenance costs: the rear-engine architecture extends labor time for simple operations.
