Renault Modus & Grand Modus I Phase 2 (JP0) Launched in 2008, the Phase 2 of the Renault Modus marked a major turning point for the model. Aware of the commercial failure of Phase 1 due to a tiny boot and disappointing rear spaciousness, Renault introduced the Grand Modus (lengthened by 16 cm, wheelbase increased by 9 cm). This version accounted for the majority of Phase 2 sales. In terms of reliability, this Phase 2 is an excellent surprise. It benefits from the eradication of the serious early defects of the Clio III / Modus Phase 1 platform (electrical problems, Delphi injection pumps with filings, turbo failures). It is a mature vehicle, very practical in Grand Modus version, and today represents an excellent choice on the used market for a small budget, particularly with petrol engine

Difficult mechanical accessibility (headlight bulb replacement still tedious, although improved compared to phase 1).
Driving position a bit "van-like" (steering wheel too horizontal).
Obsolete DP0 automatic gearbox (4 speeds), fuel-hungry and unreliable.
Interior plastics that age moderately (squeaks, scratches).

The Renault Modus Phase 2 (especially the Grand Modus version) is the archetype of an excellent used car deal. Shunned for its uninspiring design, it hides undeniable family qualities and remarkable reliability, as Renault corrected all the defects of Phase 1. The expert's choice: Avoid diesels if you drive in the city, and look for a Grand Modus 1.2 TCe 100 hp. It's the perfect compromise: flexible, reliable, economical, and capable of long-distance driving. The 1.2 16v 75 hp is perfect for a new driver or strictly urban use.
