🎯 Verdict

The Renault Modus I is a brilliant piece of packaging, offering the space of a larger car in a footprint smaller than a Clio. For a used purchase today, you must strictly target the petrol engines. The 1.2 16v (75 hp) is virtually bulletproof and perfect for the city, while the 1.4 and 1.6 16v offer better highway capability (provided the timing belt and coils are sorted). Avoid the early 1.5 dCi diesels at all costs due to the high risk of Delphi pump failure, which will cost more to fix than the car's value. Always check for electrical issues and ensure the scuttle drains are clear. Due to its age and quirky reputation, prices are very low, making a well-maintained petrol Modus a genuine bargain.
