The Renault Megane E-Tech Electric (EV9 generation) marks a major turning point for the diamond brand manufacturer. Inaugurating the dedicated CMF-EV platform (shared with the Nissan Ariya), it technically has nothing to do with the Megane IV thermal/PHEV which continued its career in parallel. Positioned as a raised compact sedan (C-segment), it stands out for its dynamic design, its contained weight (around 1,600 kg, a feat for a 60 kWh electric car) and its OpenR Link infotainment system based on Android Automotive, considered one of the best on the market. Although it sacrifices some rear habitability for style, it offers first-class driving pleasure thanks to very direct steering and a low center of gravity. Overall design score: 8.5/10.
The Renault Megane E-Tech is one of the most accomplished electric cars in its category in terms of driving pleasure and onboard technology. Its integrated Google system is a major asset in daily use. In terms of reliability, the balance sheet is very positive for a new platform: the motor and high-voltage battery are robust. The main inconveniences concern early software bugs (largely corrected by OTA), weaknesses of the 12V battery, and some noisy air conditioning compressors on 2022 models. Buying advice: Opt for an EV60 220 hp version in Techno or Iconic trim with the Optimum Charge option (AC 22 kW / DC 130 kW). Models produced from mid-2023 onwards are preferable as they benefit from factory corrections for early defects.
