The Renault Laguna II (BG0 for the hatchback, KG0 for the Estate/Grandtour) is a historic yet infamous vehicle in the European D-segment. The Renault Laguna II is a textbook example of a car rushed to market. If you buy a Phase 1 (2001-2004) diesel, you are almost guaranteed a financial disaster. However, the Phase 2 (2005-2007) is a completely different story. Renault fixed the electronics, improved the interior, and introduced the phenomenal 2.0 dCi engine. Verdict: Avoid any 1.9 dCi 120, 2.2 dCi, or 2.0 IDE. If you find a well-maintained Phase 2 with a 2.0 dCi, 2.0 16v, or 2.0 Turbo, it is one of the best used-car bargains available today, offering supreme comfort and safety for very little money.
