Renault Kangoo I (KC) (1997 – 2008)

Reliability score : 6.5/10

The first-generation Renault Kangoo (code name KC for the civilian version, FC for the Express utility vehicle) is, along with PSA's Berlingo/Partner duo, a pioneer in the 'leisure activity vehicle' segment. 🎯 Verdict

The Renault Kangoo I is a formidable tool for versatility, but buying it used today requires great caution, especially with diesel engines. The 1.5 dCi before 2006 is absolutely to be avoided due to the risk of metal filings (Delphi pump), the repair of which often exceeds the vehicle's value. If you are looking for a diesel, opt for a 1.9 dTi (noisy but solid if the belt is maintained) or a 1.5 dCi from after 2006 with a clear service history. Paradoxically, for family use or short trips, the petrol versions (1.2 16v or 1.6 16v) are by far the safest and most durable choices.
