Renault Grand Modus I (JP0) (2008 – 2012)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

The Renault Grand Modus (Generation I, Phase 2 - project code JP0) was introduced in early 2008 during the restyling of the classic Modus. Designed to correct its predecessor's main flaw (a too-small trunk), it benefits from a wheelbase extended by 93 mm and a stretched rear overhang, bringing its total length to 4.03 m (+16 cm). This minivan stands out for its excellent modularity, particularly thanks to its sliding rear bench seat. In terms of reliability, the Grand Modus is a very mature vehicle: launched 4 years after the original Modus, it benefited from the correction of the platform's (shared with the Clio III) early defects. The gasoline engines, which are the subject of this report, are particularly robust and recommendable, offering a rare peace of mind in this category.

🎯 Verdict

The Renault Grand Modus is an extremely rational and intelligent used car choice for urban families or young drivers. By correcting the original Modus's trunk flaw, it becomes a remarkably practical vehicle. With a gasoline engine, it is a highly recommended purchase. The 1.2 TCe 100 hp engine is the gem of the range: it offers the driving pleasure of a larger displacement engine while maintaining exemplary reliability (not to be confused with the disastrous 1.2 TCe direct injection that appeared in 2012). Avoid automatic (DP0) and automated manual (Quickshift) gearboxes, and avoid diesels (dCi) if you don't do regular long journeys.
