The 5th generation Ram 1500 (code name DT) redefined the standards of the full-size pickup segment upon its launch. It stands out with a cabin worthy of luxury vehicles, unparalleled ride comfort thanks to its rear coil spring suspension (or optional air suspension), and top-flight soundproofing. The 2025 model year marks a historic turning point with a major restyling (facelift) and the discontinuation of the legendary V8 Hemi in favor of the new « Hurricane » twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engines. Although mechanically very robust, this model features complex electronics that have been the subject of numerous recalls. Overall rating: 8/10 - The best pickup in its class in terms of comfort and finish, but demanding on maintenance and prone to electronic quirks.
The Ram 1500 (DT) is undoubtedly the most comfortable and luxurious pickup of its generation. The choice of engine is crucial: the Pentastar V6 is the choice of reason and absolute reliability. The 5.7L Hemi V8 is fantastic but requires rigorous maintenance (frequent oil changes) to avoid lifter problems, and you will need to budget for the replacement of the exhaust studs. The 3.0L EcoDiesel must absolutely be avoided unless you have irrefutable proof that the HPFP pump and tone wheel have been replaced via official recalls. Finally, the onboard electronics are the true Achilles heel of this model: ensure that all software updates have been performed.
