Ram 1500 5th gen (DT) (2019 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The 5th generation Ram 1500 (codename DT) revolutionized the North American full-size pickup segment upon its release. It stands out with unprecedented cabin luxury for the category, superior ride comfort thanks to its rear coil spring suspension (or optional air suspension), and cutting-edge onboard technology (12-inch Uconnect screen). Focus on the Diesel (3.0L EcoDiesel V6 - Gen 3): Reintroduced for the 2020 model year, this revised VM Motori engine offers a generous torque of 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) and excellent fuel efficiency for long trips and towing. However, it requires rigorous maintenance and has been affected by critical recalls (injection pump, crankshaft sensor). The Ram 1500 received a major facelift for 2025, marking the discontinuation of the Hemi V8 and EcoDiesel V6 in favor

🎯 Verdict

The Ram 1500 (DT) is arguably the most comfortable and luxurious pickup of its generation. If you are targeting the 3.0L EcoDiesel engine, caution is advised: although fantastic in use (torque, fuel consumption), this engine has suffered from serious issues (HPFP) that require scrupulously checking the recall history. A model whose pump has been replaced with the corrected version and which has done a lot of highway driving is a good buy. If you drive in the city or take short trips, avoid the diesel and opt for the 5.7L Hemi V8 (budgeting for the exhaust manifolds) or the very pragmatic 3.6L Pentastar V6. Also, beware of the numerous electronic bugs that have plagued this model's career.
