The Porsche 718 Boxster (982 generation) marks a historic turning point for the model with the (initial) abandonment of the legendary naturally aspirated Flat-6 in favor of turbocharged flat-4 engines (Flat-4). This change, dictated by emissions standards, sparked controversy for acoustic reasons, but brought a massive gain in torque and performance. Faced with demand from purists, Porsche reintroduced a naturally aspirated 4.0L Flat-6 in 2020 for the GTS 4.0 and Spyder versions. In terms of reliability, the 982 generation is a model student. ADAC and TÜV statistics rank it well above the average for its category. The endemic problems of older generations (such as the IMS bearing) are definitively ancient history. Today, it is one of the most reliable sports roadsters on the market.
