The facelift of the Polestar 2 (Generation I facelift, introduced for the 2024 model year) represents a major technical evolution, much more than a simple aesthetic update (marked by the new solid 'SmartZone' grille). The most significant change is the transition from FWD to RWD (rear-wheel drive) for the single-motor versions (Single Motor), radically transforming its road handling. The model also benefits from new, more efficient electric motors, silicon carbide inverters, and new batteries (up to 82 kWh supplied by CATL for the Long Range versions), allowing for increased range (up to 655 km WLTP) and faster charging (up to 205 kW). Based on Volvo's CMA platform, it retains its excellent build quality and its Android Automotive infotainment system, which is now more mature.
The facelifted Polestar 2 (2024+) has reached full maturity. The transition to RWD on single-motor versions corrects the main dynamic flaw of the early generations (torque steer), while the new batteries erase the shortcomings in range and charging speed. The early teething problems (TCAM module, software bugs) that tarnished the reputation of the 2020-2022 models are now largely resolved. It is an excellent European alternative (although manufactured in China by Geely) to the Tesla Model 3, offering better perceived quality and a more prestigious design. The Long Range Single Motor version is the most rational and highly recommended choice in the lineup.
