Peugeot 508 II (R8) The second-generation Peugeot 508 (internal code R8) marked a radical departure from its predecessor. Abandoning the traditional three-box sedan silhouette, Peugeot transformed the 508 into a sleek, low-slung five-door fastback (and a stunning SW estate), featuring frameless doors and an aggressive front fascia. The Peugeot 508 II is undeniably one of the most beautiful cars in its segment, offering a driving experience that rivals premium German brands. However, its reliability is strictly dictated by what is under the hood. If you want a diesel: The 2.0 BlueHDi (160 or 180 hp) is the absolute best choice. It is robust, powerful, and perfectly suited to the car's grand-touring nature. You only need to budget for potential AdBlue tank issues. Conversely, avoid the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 unless you have absolute proof that the 16mm camshaft chain upgrade has been performed by Peugeot. Avoid the 1.2 PureTech entirely. The PHEV versions are decent for tax purposes but add layers of electronic complexity. Buy a 2.0 BlueHDi SW, and you have one of the best highway cruisers of the decade.
