The first-generation Peugeot 5008 (internal code 0U / T87) marked Peugeot's entry into the compact MPV segment, in direct response to the Renault Scénic. Based on the 308 I and Citroën C4 Picasso platform, it stands out for its dynamic road handling, rare for the category, and exemplary modularity (up to 7 seats with retractable floor seats). A facelift occurred in late 2013, modernizing the front end and updating the engines to meet Euro 6 standards. While its family qualities are undeniable, its career has been marred by the disastrous reliability of its petrol engines (Prince family and early PureTech).
The Peugeot 5008 I is an excellent MPV in terms of family and road performance, but a real mechanical minefield on the used market if you opt for petrol. The VTi, THP 156, and PureTech 130 engines are to be avoided or bought with full knowledge of the risks, an impeccable service history, and a contingency budget. The THP 165 is more acceptable but rare. Paradoxically for a model sometimes intended for urban use, the best choice for this model remains diesel, especially the indestructible 2.0 HDi 150/163 hp with a manual or automatic gearbox (EAT6, not BMP6).
