Peugeot 5008 I (0U) (2009 – 2017)

Reliability score : 6.5/10

The first-generation Peugeot 5008 (code 0U) marked Peugeot's entry into the compact MPV segment (5 or 7 seats), in direct response to the Renault Grand Scénic. Sharing its platform (PF2) with the 3008 I and the Citroën C4 Picasso, it stands out for its dynamic road handling, rare for the category, and a driving position close to that of a sedan. Facelifted in late 2013 (new grille, LED lights), it had an honorable career before being replaced by an SUV. Overall reliability score: The reliability of the 5008 I is very heterogeneous. Petrol engines (VTi, THP, PureTech) have accumulated serious design flaws. In contrast, diesel engines (which represent the overwhelming majority of sales) offer a much more reassuring track record, especially the 2.0 HDi unit, which is a model of robustness. Th

🎯 Verdict

The first-generation Peugeot 5008 is an excellent family MPV, provided you make the right mechanical choice. The verdict is clear: you must target a model equipped with the 2.0 HDi (150 or 163 hp), preferably with a manual gearbox or a true automatic gearbox (BVA6). This configuration offers remarkable reliability and performance in line with the vehicle's weight. The 1.6 e-HDi (112/115) versions are acceptable compromises for smaller budgets but require rigorous monitoring. However, absolutely avoid petrol engines (THP, VTi, PureTech), the early 1.6 HDi 110, and versions equipped with the BMP6/ETG6 automated manual gearbox. For recent BlueHDi models, only buy if the AdBlue tank has already been replaced with the new reference.
