Peugeot 308 III (P51) (2021 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.2/10

The third-generation Peugeot 308 (P51 for the sedan, P52 for the SW wagon) marks a major turning point for the lion brand. Based on an evolution of the EMP2 (V3) platform, it introduces the new Peugeot emblem and boasts a sharp, stately design. Positioned at the top of the C-segment (premium generalist compacts), it stands out with its modernized i-Cockpit (i-Connect Advanced) and a massive transition towards electrification. While its road qualities and sound insulation are praised, this generation initially had to contend with Stellantis' controversial mechanical legacy (belt-driven PureTech, BlueHDi) before rectifying the situation with the introduction of the new chain-driven mild-hybrid engine and a 100% electric version (e-308).

🎯 Verdict

The Peugeot 308 III is a highly desirable compact car due to its style and road performance. However, its reliability record is split in two. 2021-2022 models equipped with the older combustion engines (belt-driven PureTech, 8mm chain BlueHDi) require absolute vigilance and an impeccable service history. The truly 'peace of mind' purchase lies in versions produced from late 2023, and particularly the new 1.2 Hybrid 136 hp (MHEV) engine which, thanks to its timing chain, erases past concerns. PHEV versions are relevant for fleets, provided they are recharged daily.
