The Peugeot 3008 II (internal code P84) marks a radical and highly successful shift from the first generation's MPV-like silhouette to a sharp, dynamic compact SUV. Winning the European Car of the Year award in 2017, it became a massive commercial hit thanks to its striking exterior design, the futuristic i-Cockpit interior, and class-leading chassis dynamics that offer an excellent ride/handling balance. A mid-cycle facelift in late 2020 brought a frameless front grille and updated infotainment. However, while its design and driving dynamics are universally praised, its long-term reputation has been heavily tarnished by severe reliability issues concerning its core engines, specifically the 1.2 PureTech (wet timing belt degradation) and the 1.5 BlueHDi (camshaft chain failure), as well as
The Peugeot 3008 II is a brilliant SUV on paper and behind the wheel, but a minefield in the used market. If you are looking for a petrol version, avoid the 1.2 PureTech 130 unless it is heavily discounted, has a flawless service history, and you are prepared for potential oil consumption and belt issues. The 1.6 PureTech 180 is a much safer petrol choice, though harder to find. If buying nearly new, the late-2023 1.2 Hybrid 136 MHEV is the one to get, as it finally replaces the wet belt with a robust timing chain. For high-mileage drivers, the 2.0 BlueHDi is excellent (budget for a potential AdBlue tank replacement), but avoid the 1.5 BlueHDi unless it has the upgraded 8mm cam chain.
