The second-generation Peugeot 3008 (internal code P84) marked a radical turning point for the lion brand. Abandoning the MPV look of the first iteration to adopt the codes of the compact SUV, it met with dazzling commercial success, crowned by the title of 'Car of the Year 2017'. Based on the excellent EMP2 platform, it stands out for its dynamic road handling, bold design, and futuristic cabin (i-Cockpit). It benefited from a mid-life restyling (facelift) at the end of 2020, modernizing its front end (borderless grille, LED fang lights) and updating its infotainment system. While its dynamic qualities are undeniable, its reliability record is heavily marred by the chronic weaknesses of its most widespread engines (1.2 PureTech and 1.5 BlueHDi).
The Peugeot 3008 II is a brilliant car on the road, but a minefield on the used market. If you're looking for a petrol engine, avoid the 1.2 PureTech 130 at all costs from before 2023, unless the engine has been recently replaced or the belt has been changed to the latest specification (and maintained every 10,000 km). Prioritize the 1.6 PureTech 180, which is much more robust, or opt for 2023/2024 models equipped with the new 1.2 MHEV 136 with a chain. For diesel, the 2.0 BlueHDi is a rock, while the 1.5 BlueHDi requires extreme vigilance regarding its timing chain. Buying a used 3008 demands clear maintenance traceability and, ideally, a solid mechanical warranty.
