Peugeot 3008 I (0U) (2009 – 2016)

Reliability score : 5.5/10

The first-generation Peugeot 3008 (codename T84 / 0U) marked a major turning point for the lion brand. At the crossroads of a compact MPV, an SUV, and a sedan, it achieved immense commercial success in Europe thanks to its refined interior (like an airplane 'cockpit'), its excellent road holding, and its high level of comfort. Based on the PF2 platform, it benefited from a facelift in late 2013 (new grille, LED lights). While its road qualities are undeniable, its reliability record is heavily marred by chronic failures of gasoline engines (Prince EP6 and PureTech EB2 family) and early 1.6 HDi diesels. The choice of engine is therefore absolutely crucial to avoid a financial pitfall.

🎯 Verdict

The first-generation Peugeot 3008 is a two-faced vehicle. On the road, it's a delight of comfort and dynamism. In the workshop, it can turn into a financial nightmare if you choose the wrong engine. Absolutely avoid the 1.6 THP, 1.6 VTi, 1.2 PureTech gasoline engines, as well as the 1.6 HDi 110 diesel. If you wish to buy this model, exclusively opt for a 2.0 HDi (150 or 163 hp), which offers remarkable reliability and performance in line with the vehicle's weight. The 1.6 e-HDi (112/115) remains an acceptable choice for tighter budgets, provided you avoid the BMP6 automated manual gearbox.
