Peugeot 206+ I (2A/C) (2009 – 2013)

Reliability score : 8.3/10

The Peugeot 206+ is a clever cost-amortization exercise by the French manufacturer. Introduced in 2009, it is essentially a heavily facelifted Peugeot 206 (originally launched in 1998) featuring a front fascia and dashboard inspired by the newer Peugeot 207. Positioned as a budget-friendly alternative to the 207, it competed directly with the Renault Clio Campus. Because it relies on a platform that was already 11 years old at launch, it benefits from highly proven, mature mechanicals (TU petrol engines and DV diesel engines). However, it also inherits some of the original 206's historical flaws. Overall, it is a basic, economical, and highly repairable urban car.

🎯 Verdict

The Peugeot 206+ 1.4 HDi is an excellent choice for buyers seeking maximum fuel economy on a tight budget. Because it relies on late-1990s engineering, it avoids the catastrophic failures of modern complex diesels (like AdBlue issues or fragile DPFs on early models). However, it is imperative to buy one with a healthy rear axle and dry injectors. If you hear a 'pschitt' sound from the engine or see the rear wheels tilting inward, negotiate the price down significantly (approx. €400-€600 for an axle rebuild, €150-€300 for injector seals). If these two points are sorted, it is a highly dependable and incredibly cheap car to run.
