Peugeot 206 (2009 – 2012)

Reliability score : 8.0/10

Produced between 2009 and 2012 for the European market under the name Peugeot 206+ (and sold as 207 Compact in South America), this generation is actually a significant facelift of the legendary 206 launched in 1998. Peugeot grafted a front end and dashboard inspired by the 207 onto the proven 206 chassis. The objective: to offer an affordable, reliable, and economical city car against the competition from low-cost models (Dacia Sandero, Renault Clio Campus). In terms of reliability, it's an excellent choice: with the technical base being over 10 years old at the time of its launch, almost all of the early defects (fickle multiplexing, chronic rear axle weaknesses) had been corrected or largely mitigated.

🎯 Verdict

The Peugeot 206+ (2009-2012) is the archetype of a 'sensible choice' for a new driver or someone on a tight budget. By recycling a 10-year-old platform, Peugeot eliminated the electronic quirks of the early 206 models. The engines are basic, spare parts are dirt cheap, and maintenance can be done anywhere. If one accepts a dated driving position and outdated soundproofing, it is an extremely robust city car. Prioritize the 1.4i 75 hp for its versatility, simply keeping an eye on its cylinder head gasket.
