The second-generation Peugeot 2008 (codename P24) marks a complete break from its predecessor. Based on Stellantis' modular CMP (Common Modular Platform), it abandons the raised estate look to adopt the design of a true urban SUV, muscular and aggressive. Inside, it retains the famous i-Cockpit with its small steering wheel and 3D instrumentation. Restyled in mid-2023 (new grille, three-claw light signature, modernized infotainment system), the 2008 II is a huge commercial success in Europe. However, its career is marred by chronic reliability issues with its flagship internal combustion engines (1.2 PureTech and 1.5 BlueHDi), which require extreme vigilance when buying used. The arrival of the micro-hybrid (MHEV) version with a timing chain at the end of 2023 corrects the course for buyer
The Peugeot 2008 II is an SUV full of intrinsic qualities: it is beautiful, pleasant to drive, and well-finished. Unfortunately, its record is heavily weighed down by the internal combustion engines from the 2019-2022 period. For a gasoline purchase: Avoid the 1.2 PureTech 100 and 130 hp models from before 2023 if the service history is not absolutely impeccable (strict annual oil changes) or if the belt has not been recently changed. If your budget allows, you should definitely opt for the 1.2 Hybrid 136 hp version (appeared late 2023): its switch to a timing chain solves the major problem of this model and makes it an excellent choice. The electric versions (e-2008) are good alternatives for local use, provided the condition of the on-board charger is checked.
