The second-generation Peugeot 2008 (P24) marked a radical break from its predecessor. Gone was the raised estate style; it adopted a true urban SUV (B-SUV) stance with an aggressive design, luminous fangs, and the i-Cockpit 3D. Based on Stellantis' modular CMP/e-CMP platform, it was an immense commercial success in Europe. A facelift occurred in mid-2023, bringing a new light signature, a modernized infotainment system, and new powertrains (156 hp electric and 48V hybrid). However, the reliability record is heavily tarnished by Stellantis group's internal combustion engines. The infamous 1.2 PureTech (wet belt) and 1.5 BlueHDi (AdBlue and camshaft chain) account for most serious breakdowns. The electric version (e-2008) fares better mechanically but suffers from electronic bugs and onboard
The Peugeot 2008 II is a paradoxical vehicle: brilliant in its style, spaciousness, and road handling, it is plagued by some of the least reliable internal combustion engines of the decade. If you are looking for a used car from before 2023: The utmost caution is advised. Avoid 1.2 PureTech models without an impeccable service history (and even with one, the risk remains). The 1.5 BlueHDi diesel is a lottery due to AdBlue and its camshaft chain. The electric e-2008 is the safest choice, despite some electronic quirks. If you are targeting a recent model (late 2023 - 2025): The facelift has saved the day. The new 1.2 Hybrid 136 hp engine (with a chain) is absolutely the version to prioritize. The new 156 hp electric version is also highly recommended.
