Peugeot 108 I phase 2 (PA/PB) (2018 – 2021)

Reliability score : 9.2/10

The first-generation Peugeot 108, technically restyled in 2018 (Phase 2), is the result of the TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile) joint venture based in Kolin, Czech Republic. A twin sister to the Citroën C1 II and Toyota Aygo II, this A-segment city car stands out for its agility and ridiculously low running costs. Phase 2 marks a major turning point: the abandonment of the 1.2 PureTech (PSA) engine in favor of an exclusive revised version of the 1.0-liter Toyota-sourced block, boosted to 72 hp to meet Euro 6.c then Euro 6.d standards. It also benefits from improved sound insulation and integrates an updated multimedia system (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility). It is a rational, extremely reliable car in this configuration, ideal for urban and peri-urban environments.

🎯 Verdict

The Peugeot 108 Phase 2 is a highly recommendable purchase. By abandoning the problematic 1.2 PureTech engine of Phase 1, Peugeot has made this city car one of the most reliable vehicles in its segment, thanks to the robust 1.0-liter engine supplied by Toyota. It's a pragmatic, economical choice with no unpleasant surprises for urban use. Absolutely prioritize the manual gearbox (5-speed manual); the ETG5 automated manual gearbox should be avoided due to its poor driving comfort and its tendency to prematurely wear out the clutch.
