The Opel Meriva B compact MPV, produced from 2010 to 2017, is the second generation of the model. The 1.7 CDTI diesel engines are to be avoided due to their recurring problems and lack of refinement. The 1.3 CDTI can be suitable for mixed use, provided rigorous maintenance and regular journeys. The 1.6 CDTI (from 2014 onwards) is by far the best diesel choice, offering a good compromise between performance, fuel consumption, and reliability. On the petrol side, the 1.4 Turbo engines are pleasant but the timing chain remains a weak point. A clear service history and a meticulous inspection are crucial. If you find a well-maintained model, ideally a 1.6 CDTI or a 1.4 Turbo with the timing chain already replaced, the Meriva B can be a practical and comfortable family companion. Otherwise, negotiation is in order.
