The Opel Corsa E (5th generation) is not a 100% new model, but a very significant evolution of the Corsa D, based on the same SCCS platform (developed jointly with Fiat). However, it corrects the main flaws of its predecessor: the interior is transformed with better quality materials and the integration of the IntelliLink multimedia system (compatible with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto very early on), the chassis is revised for more comfort and dynamism, and new engines appear. The highlight is the excellent 1.0 Ecotec Turbo 3-cylinder direct injection engine. Although it is a bit heavy compared to more modern competitors (Clio IV, 208 I), the Corsa E shines with its price/equipment ratio and overall reliability, especially with gasoline engines.
The Opel Corsa E is an excellent used car choice, often undervalued compared to French stars (Clio, 208). By focusing on gasoline engines, it offers remarkable peace of mind. The 1.4 naturally aspirated 90 hp is the absolute sensible choice: indestructible, inexpensive to maintain, and sufficient for daily use. For more driving pleasure, the 1.0 Ecotec Turbo (90 or 115 hp) is a gem of smoothness and responsiveness, provided that oil standards are scrupulously respected. Avoid the Easytronic automated manual gearbox and prefer manual gearboxes or the true 6-speed automatic gearbox (on the 1.4 90hp). Diesel versions should be avoided unless for very high annual mileage outside of cities.
