Opel Corsa E (2014 – 2019)

Reliability score : 7.2/10

The Opel Corsa E is not a 100% new generation, but a very heavy redesign (major facelift) of the Corsa D, based on the same SCCS platform (developed jointly with Fiat). It corrects many flaws of its predecessor with a modernized interior, the integration of the IntelliLink multimedia system, and revised suspension for more comfort. Diesel Focus: Under the hood, the diesel offering is exclusively built around the 1.3 CDTI engine (Fiat-sourced, known as the 1.3 MultiJet). Although very economical, this engine was designed at a time when emission standards were becoming drastic, making it susceptible to clogging if not used for long journeys. The Corsa E ended its diesel career in 2018, anticipating Euro 6d-Temp standards and the transition to the PSA platform (Corsa F).

🎯 Verdict

The Opel Corsa E is a rational and well-equipped city car. Regarding the 1.3 CDTI diesel, the verdict is nuanced. It is an extremely frugal engine, perfect for high-mileage drivers covering more than 20,000 km/year on highways. However, its reliability is heavily compromised if used in the city (rapid clogging of the DPF/EGR) or if maintenance is neglected (timing chain failure due to degraded oil). Buying advice: Firmly negotiate 1.3 CDTI versions by demanding an impeccable service history (annual oil changes or every 15,000 km maximum) and avoid models that have been primarily used in the city. If your use is mixed or urban, you should definitely opt for the very robust 90 hp 1.4 MPI gasoline engine.
