Opel Corsa E (2014 – 2019)

Reliability score : 7.2/10

The Opel Corsa E (sold as the Vauxhall Corsa in the UK) is the fifth generation of the popular supermini. Rather than being an entirely new car, it is a heavy, comprehensive facelift of the previous Corsa D, retaining the Fiat-GM SCCS platform. However, it introduced completely redesigned exterior panels, a vastly improved interior with the IntelliLink infotainment system, and heavily revised suspension and steering geometries to improve ride quality. While the petrol lineup saw the introduction of the modern 1.0-litre 3-cylinder SIDI turbo, the diesel lineup relied exclusively on the tried-and-tested 1.3 CDTI (a rebadged Fiat 1.3 MultiJet). This engine is known for its outstanding fuel economy but requires strict maintenance and specific driving conditions (highway use) to remain reliable

🎯 Verdict

The Opel Corsa E 1.3 CDTI is a pragmatic, budget-friendly choice for high-mileage drivers. The Fiat-sourced diesel engine is incredibly frugal, but it is not a city car. If you buy the diesel for short commutes, you will face expensive DPF, EGR, and timing chain repairs. When buying the 1.3 CDTI, a flawless service history with frequent oil changes is non-negotiable. If you drive mostly in the city, pivot to the 1.4 MPI or the excellent 1.0 SIDI Turbo petrol engines instead. Always negotiate the price if the diesel engine exhibits any cold-start rattle or if the M32 gearbox whines.
