The third-generation Nissan Qashqai (code name J12), launched in 2021, marks a major turning point for the pioneer of compact SUVs. Based on the new CMF-C platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, it definitively abandons diesel to focus on electrification. It introduces mild hybridization (12V MHEV) on its 1.3 DIG-T petrol engine and inaugurates the e-Power technology in Europe, an atypical hybrid powertrain where the internal combustion engine exclusively serves as a generator to power the electric traction motor. More spacious, better finished, and equipped with a cutting-edge technological arsenal, the J12 clearly moves upmarket compared to its predecessor (J11).
The Nissan Qashqai J12 is a very accomplished compact SUV that has successfully corrected the finish and technology flaws of its predecessor. The choice to abandon diesel is compensated by an excellent, very reliable 1.3 DIG-T mild-hybrid engine, and by the innovative e-Power technology. The latter offers a driving experience close to 100% electric in the city, although it loses some of its appeal on the highway. The main issues reported to date are electronic (infotainment, software bugs), often corrected under warranty. It is a recommendable purchase, particularly in the e-Power version for peri-urban use, or in the 1.3 DIG-T 140 hp 6-speed manual version for optimal value for money.
