MG MG5 I facelift (2022 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The name MG5 refers to two very different automotive realities depending on the region of the world, which often causes confusion. In Europe, the MG5 is a 100% electric compact station wagon (based on the Roewe Ei5). 🎯 Verdict

The ICE MG5 (sedan) is a vehicle of extreme compromise. While its attractive design, onboard space, and rock-bottom price make it an enticing offer on paper, it hides crippling shortcomings for a demanding buyer. The mechanical reliability of the 1.5L engines (NA and Turbo) is perfectly decent, but driving pleasure is ruined by a poorly calibrated DCT gearbox and light soundproofing. Above all, its score of 0 stars in the ANCAP crash test in 2023 automatically disqualifies it for safe family use. To be reserved for buyers looking for a new vehicle at a used car price, aware of the sacrifices made on safety and technology. In Europe, the MG5 EV (electric) station wagon is a totally different vehicle, much more recommendable and accomplished.
